1979 Kurt Heizmann founded the company. The main emphasis was converting paper and cardboard. In 1988, son-in-law, Dipl.-Kfm. Bernhard Dettling take over the company and operated under the name Convertec GmbH Veredelungstechnologie.
In the early nineties, the company started coating materials such as PVC and PE for the thermal transfer printing technique.

This process led to digital large format printing (LFP) and the
media required for it.
A joint development project with one of the leading producers for
self-adhesive PVC films resulted in the first inkjet printable vinyl
film with matte surface and respectable water resistance. Continous development of a printable topcoat resulted in converting other substrates.
As such, the door was opened to a broad range of products and was the basis for a distribution system based on ‘private labeling’.
